Thanked: 0Henry More Razor?
I happened to come across a Henry More razor made in Solingen, Germany. I've tried googling it but nothing seems to come up. Would anyone be able to help me know a little more about this razor? It's 5/8 razor with a black handle. Any help would be grateful, thanks.

Thanked: 1Clinton...
Way back in the day, a variety of businesses in the U.S. jobbed out razors to Germany. They would order them with their own company logos or business names on the tang. Many of these businesses were hardware stores. I'm guessing that is what you have.

Thanked: 346You see a bunch of Shapleigh Hardware razors on ebay that were done like that, at least every Shapleigh razor I've seen has been german made. They also sold hones and strops as well.
I guess it made sense at the time, once the general store concept died and retail fractured into more specialized divisions then all your guy-related stuff landed in the same store. So guys would either buy their razors and associated paraphernalia at the hardware store with their other hardware, or the more metrosexual guys would buy theirs at their local barber.
And the razor hones could be used on chisels and fish hooks and fillet knives, so these weren't necessarily single-purpose implements anyway.
