    Default D. Grandsard?

Hey everyone, just picked up another razor and of course looking for a little info. I'll have to post pictures tomorrow, but here are the details...

Huge huge blade size and on one side it says D. Grandsard Oostburg and on the other side it has 40 and a hand holding a hammer.

I couldn't really find any info on it, but just for the size i decided to buy it $30(i'm happy with that). any info is much appreciated!

I have one. Mine is huge, a 9/8. It has a small stamp of Rich Herder of Solingen on the back tang as well as a light blade etch of "Oostburg". No hand holding a hammer, though! That may be a clue to the maker. If I understand correctly, D. Grandsard was a retailer in Dutch Oostburg. If that is the case, it could be of another make. If it is like mine, you got a smoking deal. One of my finest shavers. Post some pics, here is mine.

Cool. Get closeups of the tang on both sides too!

Interesting! Mine is much different. The stampings, the maker's marks are obviously different, as is the style. Seems I read Grandsard was a long-running firm.
I wonder what the hammer-in-hand means? I will get pics of the other side of mine if you want, but it just has a small, weak, stamp of Rich Herder, Solingen back there! My scales are of Bakelite and seem original. Yours look as horn? I guess not after a second look. Bakelite too? I suspect yours is older than mine and also of a different make. Nice blade!

yeah looks like bakelite to me(i'm still new). Love the size of it! I'll get it cleaned up and then get someone to make some scales for me! i also have the box. it's in bad shape and has nothing on it but a design.

You might consider fixing what you have. A half scale would do it and lots of old Bakelite scales out there. Bakelite is good, strong stuff. keeping it original would be best, IMO. Get us a close-up of the reverse tang with the hammer. I would bet Manah would know who made it!~
