Torrey razor steel is the best out there in my opinion, it is also a harder steel, check your bevel.

Maybe this is why they require such vigorous stropping!

I think if they are honed correctly they stop just as any other razor.

It was just an observation of mine. Other razors, (especially the singing Solingens and German blades,) strop quickly to a nice edge, while the heavier Torreys require more to get a good easy shave.

Well...I'm attaching a picture taken with my phone so quality is poor -- may not even be useful. But...for what it's worth. I thought of buying a new camera but seem to have spent all my money recently on razors LOL. BTW, I did see a very light imprint on the blade "Our 136."Name: IMG_20120829_103008-1.jpg

I have a dozen or so razors and have honed a couple from ebay to shaving sharp. My main question was: "Is this piece worth fooling with?" The answer is obviously "yes." So, today I went back to the beginning and went thru some long pyramids with my Norton 4K/8K and a Naniwa 12K. Seems sharp. Plan to shave with it in the AM. Many thanks to you all, gents,

I've owned and honed several Torrey's and they were made of some of the hardest steel I've ever seen in a razor. Don't be afraid to use a little pressure when setting the bevel.
