    Well the etching looks to be on the 'wrong' side. A quote and an image of Shakespeare .... looks like the huge blade is too large for the present scales .... ?

    Neat blade. I have a Bengall with a backside etch - they're very uncommon!

    That has always been my understanding too, some even have the scales imprinted on the backside... I have never seen them in an old Advertisment so I haven't seen proof yet...

    Jimmy, Scales are actually perfect for it (original I believe) , just a bad photo angle

    A "Keen" eye can tell that they used the same size etching on all the blades, and can deduce that this indeed a beastly bit of steel, measuring in at a full inch!
