Thread: F Koeller & Co

I've got an F Koeller & Co that was my great-grandfather's. I posted it at the shaving room, here, and spoke to Jamie who posts as celticcrusader here. I know it would be difficult to restore, the scales are bone and might not be saved and there is heavy pitting. I've just started to try out a straight, used it twice, and think I might try and get this restored in the future. I've had a bit of a google and can't find an F Koeller like this one so was wondering if anyone had any more information.







On the back of the tang is a steam train, on th other sid it says F Koeller & Co Ohligs - Germany.

F. Koeller & Companie registered 23rd April 1906, Solingen-Ohligs.

The Köller or Koeller family was long-established in the Solingen area and traced their ancestry back to the sword smith Johann Köller (1440-c.1518). F. Koeller & Cie was founded in 1855 by Franz Koeller and was listed in the commercial regissters as the manufacturer of 'cutlery, desk-sets and pens'; the company was also responsible for wholesaling the wares of some of the smaller Solingen firms.

And are there any connections of the elephant with the train and the plane?

Well it might have been a bit early to have an automobile.

It's a very rhetorical question.
Many companies have similar stamps: cars, trains, planes, bicycles etc.
And it's very difficult to find logical or historical explanation of such trademarks and stamps.
Usually, there is no such info in the company history.

Yeah, I thought would probably be the case. Still when I have been looking on google there seem to be quite a few superbas and sta-sharps knocking about but I haven't seen this one.
