Thanked: 485E Weck & Son 'Sextoblade'
Hi Guys,
I got a E Weck & Son razor from my son for father's day. It's not the sort of razor I'd normally buy; I normally use a 'proper' straight or a Mühle R 89, but I'll probably restore it as my son gave it to me (if I can get some blades for it). It seems to be plated, and it's lost some of its plating; so I'm guessing polishing it will remove the plating. Not sure what sort of metal may be under the plating; maybe brass?
I've found a link here to a patent document that says the attachment is a 'stiffner'. I assume the stiffner is used WITH the razor?
I've found a possible blade replacement being these.
Has anyone ever used one of these? Would those Fromm blades fit? Does one use it always witht he 'stiffner' or can it be used without the stiffner as well? I note they can be used for shaping hair but also for shaving the face.
Of course I'd need new scales, but it is useable with the scales it has.
As I say, I'd not normally bother buying something like this, preferring better straights, but scince it was a gift I'll give it a go.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

I've never seen one, but that stiffener, as they call it, looks an awful lot like a honing jig to me

Thanked: 884Way cool that your son bought it for you.
Edward Weck and Son is still in business. They've been bought out and now make medical/surgical stuff. Company goes back to around the turn of the century.
I had a neat old tear drop jack pocket knife made by Edward Weck. Traded it off for something else a while back.
No idea about the blades for it, but you see the razors on ebay pretty regular.

There are some blades for sale in that bunch.

E Weck & Son 'Sextoblade'
I have one of these and they shave pretty much the same as a normal straight without the stiffener. With the stiffener it is like a safety straight as it really won't let you go pass a point to do more then nick yourself. This comes in handy if you are in a little bit of a crunch in the morning. As to blades you need to look for hair shaper blades. Persona makes good ones and fromm does also.
Also the sextoblade is meant to be stropped like regular straights so you can keep these blades going for awhile before needing to change them. But of course you can use them till they dull and toss them.

I used to use those on customers (tattoo) when we used to use straight razors to shave the tattoo area. Now, of course, we use disposable twin blade safety razors. I found that the old Weck blades were better than the Personna blades available now. I always threw the guard away and just use it like a straight. They do rust , the slot for the blade I mean, so keep it clean and don't leave a wet blade in there too long.

Thanked: 88I have a Weck Hair Shaper that uses the same blades. I shaved with it once. The angles are different, so just take it easy. I probably won't ever go ATG with one again.

The Wecks are actually pretty well put together. A big plus with these is that you can still find blades that will fit them, unlike the Durham Duplex'.
