Manhattan Cutlery Co. Sheffield 13/16
Thought I would share a couple of pics ( NOT good pics unfortunately!) of a new acquisition: A Manhattan Cutlery Co. 13/16 wedge. I just did a 'quickie restore' to see what it might look like after a complete restore job. Little bit of sanding and and polishing...Honed it up and shaved. My verdict: GREAT SHAVER...just what I expected from an older Sheffield. I like these older 'heavier' Sheffield's and I find this one to be the perfect size for me. I have many "BIG BLADES" ( 8'8's or bigger) but for me I like the comfort-ability of a nice 'hefty' 6/8 to 7/8. This one is a 'Keeper' for sure so...complete restore to original coming up
Anyone else ever had the pleasure of owning and or shaving with a 'MANHATTAN'??? I would love to see some pics of yours if you got 'em...
P.S. Sorry about the pics...but I hope you get an idea of the beautiful shape of this blade. Blame the photographer and the equipment in equal proportions...

The interesting trademark. And nice old razor.
The owners of this trademarks were John Watts, Sheffield and John Newton & Co., Manhattan Works, Sheffield. But who was the first ...I can't understand yet.
Some facts:
From the history of John Newton & Co.:
"The firm was a merchant, which sold table an pocket cutlery, Bowie knives, and razors. These were sold in America through the New York cutlery importer H. Boker."
From the H.Böker & Co. history:
"1868 - Knives marked for the Manhattan Cutlery Co. were imported from Sheffield, England, until 1916."Alex Ts.

Thanked: 2Great find on the Manhattan brother!! I also like the way they shave!! Here is a matched pair I picked up at the antique store around the corner last week.... currently on the restore list!!
Dad always said "don't smear anything on the ladder as you go up...you hit your nose on all the rungs if you fall...and they'll be too slippery to get back up!"

Good Evening Gentlemen! Thought I'd share a pic of the pair of Manhattans I found at the antique shop after reworking the mangled scales....The "patina" on the blades was a touch more than a light polishing with diamond film could handle, and I may just be stubborn, but I feel regrinding a razor turns it into a 2018 custom rather than leaving it a vintage piece......so I figured leaving the original age wear on them was the way I wanted to leave them. Both of these sisters shave like a lightsaber!! Thank you to Wolfpack! His like of this makers work caused me to lean towards keeping this set rather than pass it along, and I feel that was a solid choice! I'm still "new" to the site, but is asking what city in Cali that Wolfpack hails from against site rules?? Have a great evening Gents....Happy Honing!Dad always said "don't smear anything on the ladder as you go up...you hit your nose on all the rungs if you fall...and they'll be too slippery to get back up!"

One more attempt at a pic of these.... I'm finding it harder to take a decent pic than to find a rare gem at a flea market!! I apologize for the poor quality of the images, but maybe it'll show that these aren't too shabby lookingDad always said "don't smear anything on the ladder as you go up...you hit your nose on all the rungs if you fall...and they'll be too slippery to get back up!"
