Thanked: 3225Edward Smith razor
I got this one awhile back and just love the blade design. It says Edward Smith and no maker. I am assuming is is a Sheffield razor made for Edward Smith of 3 Cheapside which I take it is a London address. It does not say England or Made in England on the blade either.

Beautiful razor! The tang and grind look very likely! 6/8? Great find! Cheapside, eh? Nothing cheap about that one! Enjoy!

I suppose Neil Miller is on Holiday? He would know everything about it. I look at it and either the scales have been replaced with a bit smaller ones, or the blade is bigger than 6/8? The top peens seem smashed. Nice horn! From an old Sheffield standard, the scales seem too small. Or is it just me? A neat find. I want it!

Thanked: 3225Thanks gents. If I had to have a custom razor made this razor would be the pattern I'd follow with maybe a few embellishments added. It tapers from slightly more than 6/8 at the toe to slightly less at the heel. I don't know if that was the way it was designed or if it was a victim of poor honing and or damaged blade at some point. One other thing I'd like to know is what age it is?
Bob
It could easily be a put together with non original scales. I really don't know a lot about razors except what I like the looks of.Last edited by BobH; 09-03-2012 at 02:23 AM. Reason: added a responce

It is a nice one. I'd bet that the maker is Edward Smith. He was probably a small cutlery business at Cheapside in UK. No "England" so probably before 1891. Neil or manah will be along to say for sure I hope.

Thanked: 884I think a lot of the razors of that era were made that way.
I've got a few of that vintage and the blades are very similar.

Thanked: 3225Here is another puzzler for you all. This razor is marked Cameron/Cutler/Edinburgh and no makers stamp or England/Made in England.

Dunno Bob, but ..... check out this thread here from a few years ago. I had just gotten a 4 razor boxed set marked Cardiff. Interesting detective work done by some of the members from Wales back then. The results then lead me to believe that both of the razors you've posted were made by smaller outfits. Maybe not but I'd bet that is the case.
