    Default Need razor help.

Hello everyone...first time poster here. I have a question that hopefully some of the more experienced straight razor enthusiasts can help me with. I recently purchased a Le Grelot 6/8 Mirror Polish w/o marking in Blue Boxwood Elder Scales from Classic Shaving. They sent me the wrong razor and when I inquired about returning it, I was told the razor I ordered is no longer available but that they had another I might be interested in (their e-mail to me):

...tell him that the 6/8 Le Grelot that you are sending him is one of the last real Le Grelot razors HISTORICAL that is still on the market as a "new" Historical razor, that is, this is a new razor that is made out of one of the last HISTORICAL LE GRELOT blanks that was forged by HOSPITAL company before 1975 and probably around 1950-1960. Thiers-Issard who ground and finished these HISTORICAL blanks have now no more left and only a few commercial companies who have bought the stock from Thiers-Issard still have any left. Besides the HISTORICAL aspect, these razors shave beautifully and are famous all over the net. Though they are not the easiest to put an edge on (they have very hard steel) once the edge is there, well it just stays and stays and the shave is sweet as anything!

Should I take this offer or is this a quick sell on a inferior product? I have NO idea. Thanks in advance!!!

I dont know much about the particular razor, what I do know is that you ordered one thing and they are trying to push something else on you. IIRC there was some talk about some old blanks being ground into new blades, but that is all I can remember.

Hang around, somebody who knows more than I will be along sooner or later.

I'm in the same shape as nun2sharp about not knowing if that's good deal or no.

I'd call 'em up and see what they say.

It might be a better deal, but I just don't know.

You should have gotten what you ordered or a note stating the razor was not available w/ options before they shipped you the razor. If you are not happy with their actions you should return the razor and purchase one that you choose. We see this from time to time where a seller sends a razor different from the razor ordered. In the end you should be happy with the purchase and the seller's actions or it should be returned. There's really no excuse for not communicating before sending a replacement.
