Default Neighbor gave me these blades...can't find any info.

Speaking with my neighbor today...real nice guy. For some wierd reason we started talking about shaving. I told him that I wanted to start shaving with a straight razor. I ended up saying goodbye and walking next door.

A little while later I came outside and there are two boxes on my porch.

Each has two blades in the box...wrapped in wax paper.

I spent the past few hours searching and can't find any info on "Ranidae" The boxes are nice and heavy and appear pretty old.

Anyone know what I got...worth using?

    Thanks a bunch.

    Welcome to SRP!

Looks like a good start to me. I'm not familiar with that name but that doesn't mean they aren't good razors.

Get some scales mounted on one and get her honed up and see how it does. If it turns out good, then you got some more to fix up.

I'm with Wullie, the shave is the important thing not necessarily the name. Get one scaled and honed and give her a go.

Thanks guys...As you can tell I'm a complete novice when it comes to this. He did give me a set of scales (if they are called a set) ...I was leaving for work and I didn't really have a chance to look everything over.

Do I need four blades? Is it good to keep them as spares?

    Thanks

    Well?

IF you decide you like shaving with these things, I doubt that four will be enough. LOL

If you don't like it, then four will be four too many.

There is a lot to learn about straight shaving, but it isn't rocket science.

As for why there are no scales on those blades, it is hard to tell. Sometimes decorative scales were removed and used on other razors.

I was thinking more along the lines that they were bought by either a barber supply or wholeseller that way, ready for the companies own sets of scales.

Either way, they look like great blades.

Four? Start using it and liking it...you'll have at least 7 in no time!! Welcome to SRP...and good luck with the first shave later.
