    Default Yay for new stuff!!

I have to thank a particular vendor for my new 6/8 Bismarck. My wife and both daughters saw the red scales, and by popular vote, (more like a demand) said that I had to get it over the black scales. I actually did a little shopping around and wasn’t able to find the red anywhere else. In the process, I made up my mind that I wanted to get a round point in spite of growing up with squares. It also happens to be my first 6/8, where I’ve always had 4/8’s. I think that the Bismarck will prove to be interesting to say the least.
    Now to try it out…

So the first thing that I noticed was the size once I put it up to my face. A quarter of an inch doesn’t sound like much or even look like much until its right next to your face. My wife asked me if I was really happy with it and I have to say that I definitely am. First, it’s the first new razor that I’ve ever had. The ones before have been family razors and were a great source of pride and I wish I still had them. But there is also something to be said for this one being mine from the beginning.
I have to admit that the larger width did make one side of my upper lip a bit tender, but I’m quite sure that it’s simply a matter of not being used to the size. The other issue is something that I have to deal with regardless of what I use; scarring. As I have gotten older (pffft…only 46), there are scars from an injury in the Navy, that are starting to rear their ugly head. One in particular makes shaving of any type much more fun; and even more so with a straight. It definitely took a couple of extra minutes with a wider blade. Hopefully the learning curve on this doesn’t get to steep. One problem that I did have didn’t involve the razor, but was the cream. My wife decided that she would buy it because it smelled nice; that and to add to the fun of a new razor. Like a dummy, I had to go and throw in another variable and use it with a new razor. Had to stop and switch to a block which I have always used. The cream just wasn’t cutting it and I had to eliminate as many “maybe’s” as I could. After that, I was quite pleased with the results.

I've never shaved with one but a friend of mine who is on here, ironsidegnr, has one that he removed the gold wash from! Every post I seem to be writing today is about gold wash on steel....... Anyhow, having held one in my hands it makes me want one. Definitely a good buy that doesn't break the bank too badly! Enjoy it and take care of it and pass it on

I've got the same blade in a less dressy version. I hope you settle in to yours as comfortably as I've settled into mine; for me it handles perfectly. Have you noticed how much easier the shoulderless blade is to strop? The width and weight make for a smooth ride, too. I shaved with a 4/8 today. Not nearly as comfy an experience.

Very true, by Bismarck glides really well on the strop.

I rally enjoy the blade, it's my default fallback blade. Any time I test out a newly honed razor, I compare it to my Bismarck and my Red Imp 133...That gives me the best referance of how I did on the stones.

I love my Bismarck, Im sure you'll love yours too.
Through the mud and the blood, to the green fields beyond.
