Default The Town of Solingen, Germany

So my parents are doing this Viking river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest this year and will be travelling right by Solingen, Germany.

Has anyone ever been to this area and if so, would anyone know of places to purchase new/vintage/nos razors there? I see that there is the Dovo factory there, the Giesen and Forsthoff and Linder, Henckels, Boker, etc.

Anyone have any luck actually going here and purchasing anything?

Revisor is also located in Solingen, you may want to contact them and see if they have a store front operation there Kontakt . I don't think Solingen is right on the river but not a far drive from either Cologne or Dusseldorf if the cruise makes stops there.

I visited Solingen for some times.
The most interesting place for me there is The Deutsches Klingenmuseum (Blade Museum).
I also visited DOVO, Boker and some other cutlery firms, and places.
It's very interesting to speak with people who worked at that old cutlery factories. But today, there're few people, who remained. Unfortunately, people die.

My parents did that exact same cruise several years ago, and I had the exact same thought you did. Problem was, they were still stoned from the Amsterdam portion of the trip when they got to Solingen and forgot my order. They did come back with lots of German sausage though. Lots....

Anyway, I'd suggest you write your order down and pin it to their shirts.

I don't know if there are any deals to be had but remember you have to pay the German VAT of 21%%, I think it is, when you purchase there. The price quoted will already have the VAT included and the only way to get a refund is to fill out paper work and apply for it latter. If you order online the VAT is deducted from the price but you pay shipping which is generally cheaper than the VAT.

    You thought HST was bad.
