Thread: 1880 Wade & Butcher advertising card.

Nice! The card includes the "Special" stamp and the "Sheffield England" stamp.
Therefore, I would put it into the 1920's at least. Cool Card!

What jumped out at me was 'printed by Sir Joseph Causton & Sons'. So the printer was knighted by the King/Queen ..... that is interesting to me. I wonder what he did, besides printing, that earned that distinction.

Joseph Causton was also a politician. He became a Councillor for Billingsgate, East London in 1868 and Sheriff for London and Middlesex in 1868. The pinnacle of his career came when Queen Victoria opened Blackfriars Bridge and Holborn Viaduct in 1869 and he was knighted at Windsor Castle to mark the event. The company name now became Sir Joseph Causton and Sons Limited. Sir Joseph died just two years later, but his sons, Joseph, Richard, and James, continued as partners of the firm.

It's just too bad that the cards didn't come with the original razors!

It's impossible to date this advertising. IMO.
Only that it was printed after 1870's - Extra Hollow Ground.
Why impossible:
I'm not sure that these images are the advertising cards. May be, it's a sticker on/in the razor box. If it's a sticker, it was printed after 1891. If it's a simple advertising, possibly, it was printed for America before 1891 and "England" print isn't play role.
So. It's only my ideas.

Well. But was this card with razor or without?
As I wrote, if with razor, possibly, the razor has the same stamp - Sheffield, England.
Many questions. I can't say for sure.

It can't help.
It's a full name of the company - W.& S.Butcher Ltd.

My thinking is the card states that genuine razors are marked with the Special Logo as well as the tang stamp of Sheffield England. We all know the tang stamp on the card is indicative of post 1891. Certainly the celluloid scaled Special is a 20th century razor.
