Chinese Razors
Gentlemen,
One of the guys I work with is from China. He told me the other day that he will be going back soon for a vacation, and that he could pick me up some nice straight razors that would cost between $20 and $40 US money. The problem is he does not shave with a straight razor, and I don't know anything or have heard anything about Chinese straight razors. So I turn to you guys the pros!
Are there any good Chinese razors, do you know of a name brand, anything thing you can tell me would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Alewine

Thanked: 235I don't know of any Chinese razors that can actually work as razors. Ask him to bring back some tea instead.

Thanked: 13246When you say Chinese razor most of us think Gold Dollar or Double Arrow which you can buy very cheap... There are also some Junk razors on e-bay that are claimed to be Ancient Chinese razors that are total BS..
BUT
Just so you don't miss out on a unique opportunity, several of the well known Sheffiled makers did have razors that were marketed specifically for China... So tell him if he finds razors that have "Sheffield" or "England" or both, Stamped into the Tang then YES buy them... I am not aware of Solingen or American brands that have done this also, but that doesn't mean they are not out thereLast edited by gssixgun; 09-21-2012 at 04:12 PM.

In the past I had a couple of Gold Dollars and Double Arrows. My own experience with them has been you can make a half way decent razor out of one if you replace scales, do some shoulder and heel work. Why, go through all that, it isn't worth the time and effort spent on the modifications just to save a few bucks. Spend the few extra bucks a get a real razor, you'll thank yourself for it.
