    Default Marvicide dip and scales

I've got a couple razors I purchased from ebay and want to sanitize them before I clean them up, is it okay to put the razor and scales in a marvicide bath or should I remove the scales first?

I'd be careful of the scales. Various scales will react differently depending on the product and age and type of scale. I soak the blade end to the scale for stated time and then just dunk and wash the scales quickly. It's a hard call!

If they are stainless or true plastic it's probably OK but otherwise I'd try and avoid it. Especially celluloid which could be damaged. Other types might stain depending how long the exposure is. Wood if really well sealed is probably OK for a real quick dip.

Okay, I'll unpin them and just soak the blade in that stuff. The scales are crooked anyway so I'll have to figure out how to straighten them.

Plastic, bakelite, will be ok. Celluloid will be stained; there was a post the other day where a guys dubl duck scales are now nice and superman blue from barbicide. CA and tongue oil finishes can be ruined if the dilution and soak times aren't right. Google the MSDS for marvicide and it will tell you what it can and cannot have sterilized in it; remember this stuff is used to sterilize medical instruments (it's potent stuff). Be sure to wash with warm soap and water when you are done, don't let it sit and dry on the blade.
