Thanked: 20Tortoise Handle Henry Sears
I've had this razor for three years or so and would like to get some info on the scales and razor itself. It is a Henry Sears & Sons Warranted Queen razor, it looks like real Tortoise shell handles but I'm not for sure since I've never had a razor like this before. I asked my friend Stingray and he is not sure also, maybe someone here at SRP knows about what type of material these handle are made of. I tried the hot pin test to see if they are plastic but they are natural material, I got the pin red hot and put it on inside of handle and nothing happened. I will put a pic up for better representation and any help would be appreciated:

Looks like blonde horn to me. Especially if the dark spots are on one side of the scale only. If they run through the scale, it can be turtle.

Thanked: 24Looks like horn stained to look like tortoise shell. The colour is only on the outside, and doesn't run all the way through.

This thread by Science Guy will show you how to tell the real Mc'Coy ......... http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...oiseshell.html
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Looks like stained horn, hot pin test will not tell you the difference between horn and turtle shell unless you have a fairly good sense of smell/memory and have smelled both.
(if you are not quite picky about the wine you drink or don't hate eating fast food you most likely can't tell by the smell)

It's horn. I've seen and worked on plenty of real tortoise shell and that's not it.

spotted horn before clean up
Then after clean up
The dark pattern is like a wood stain type of deal but a lot more toxic when applied from what I found when looking for how to redo itSaved,
to shave another day.
