Default Help With My Speech: History Of SRs

    Hello everyone,

I was wondering if I could get some assistance with finding sources for I speech I have coming up next week. My topic is the History of Straight Razors.

So far I have looked at the wikipedia article for SRs, I have done some google searches, my college's library also has academic databases that I've searched.

Yet, I'm still not finding everything I need. I would like to find more info on the evolution of: the steel used, the shape/grind of the razor, scale material, etc...

I haven't really checked out the wiki here on SRP so I should probably do that, but any help would be great!

    Thanks, Chance

    Hi Chance,

You will find most of it here - you just have to put the effort into searching for it. Try looking for 'acier fondu' 'cast steel' 'warranted cast steel' 'silver steel' 'benjamin huntsman' 'robert mushet' 'wootz' 'stodart' 'faraday' etc, etc - getting a handle on those will suggest other things to you to search for. Your work will only be as good as the effort you put into it, so good luck!

    Regards,
    Neil

Well, back in my day we didn't have wiki's and on line anything and encyclopedias were verboten for source material. We had to go to the local Library and do it the old fashioned way by pulling books and reading and if the local library didn't have anything it was off to the Regional Branch and if they didn't have anything it was off to the main N.Y Public Library. They had everything there.

AND those hieroglyphics that were carved on clay tablets were REALLY heavy.

If you are looking for how metals evolved google "history of metallurgy", it brings up a lot of info.

We didn't need to write back then as we were all telepathic.

Seems that talent has fallen out of vogue. EXCEPT where the women are concerned. They still expect us to read their minds.
