Magnetic razors
Was there an actual benefit to a magnetic razor or was it more of a gimmick? Do they actually keep their magnetism for any length of time?

Thanked: 2591As far as I know no, magnetic could be a reference to carbon steel which can be magnetized unlike stainless which is not that susceptible to magnetism, that is my speculation. I am sure they are not magnetic as in sources of magnetic field. I also do not see how a magnet can improve a shave.

I've had a few magnetic razors passing through and I can't see any benefits at all, one of them was so strongly magnetic it actually would lift another razor if the spines touched.
It has previously been discussed and IRC the most likely reasons some razors are magnetic is if they have hit or been hit something with the right force (carbon steel can be magetized and demagnetized by hiting it with i.e. a hammer) or if they have been in contact with a magnet over time.Need help or tutoring? Check out the .

Almost every razor I run into these days is magnetic; the da*n things stick to my wallet when I pass by.

I have a Boker Damascus Magnetic steel (two gimmicks in one) that will lift another blade, but shaves no better or worse than other Bokers I have.

Why of course there is a benefit. Your blood is full of iron and the razor with the magnetism passing over your skin pulls the iron to the surface and causes the skin to push the whiskers up thus guaranteeing a superior shave.
Well, that's what they used to say 100 years ago so I'm sure you can take that to the bank-har har.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Pure gimmick. Magnetism was poorly understood and therefore alluring. After magnetism lost its mystique they went on to dose everything with the newly-discovered radium, with tragic results for many. They didn't even have to go so far as to make many of the products magnetic or radioactive -- just the word was enough to evoke the presumably beneficial effects of the mysterious new force.
I'm assuming that someone, somewhere in the bowels of P&G, has a big plan to introduce "Cloud Shaving" soon. Like a Fusion handle which automatically posts to Facebook or some such idiocy.

Somewhat like the battery powered razors that I saw at AOS. Vibrating blades

Magnetic razors
Oh Virginia, there is a Santa!! Magnets are real. If you believe in "Resting" then you must believe in "Magnets"!!
Oh this is how it works. Magnets setup an electrical field around the blade that Stops it from Rusting! Yes!
US Navy... Ships in moth balls have a small electrical charge running through their hulls. Why? To stop rusting! Same field that a Magnet sets up around a blade!!
