Thread: ID/Info ??

First post to SRP so go easy on me.

I bought this razor on eBay from this user and unfortunately the seller speaks almost no English.
I have received the razor and it looks great but i know nothing about it. Wicked_Edge suggested i come here to see if you could help.

Here is what i know about the razor:
Purchased from a French Ebay seller, I can only find the etched name on Ebay. On the scales near one end it “Brevete SGDG” is written, and on the tang “EXPÉDITIF 27” is written. I’m not sure if the box is original but I doubt it based on the difference in condition between the razor and the box.

At this point I’m thinking it can’t be very good because I can’t find any info. Any of you pros have any idea what I bought or where it’s from?

Welcome to SRP.
I would have to disagree with what you are saying, just because there is not enough info does not mean the razor is not good. Case in point Japanese straights.
French razors are always good shavers so hone it up or have it honed and enjoy.

Work your GOOGLE FU and you will see that "Brevete SGDG" has to do with French patents, take it from there.
The box may very well hold your answers.

Very true. As soon as i get my strop I'll put it through a good test and report back.

I'm guessing i can't find as much as you did. I know it's a french razor and I know they make good blades in some regions of France but I'm still not sure what brand it is. The box translates to Razor Guarantee which seems to be a brand but even then I don't think the blade belongs with the box because it doesn't have the same markings I see associated with other blades in that box or one similar.

I think my GoogleFu is not yet strong enough to determine the brand, but it is safe to say I think it was produced in France.

Ok welcome to SRP Beautiful french razor you got there you should be proud.
Brevete SGDG means Patented for brevete and SGDG means "Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement" wich means "Without warranty from goverment" this mention was established in 1844 and abolish in 1968.
So your razor is definately before 1968 for sure.

The seller of this razor is top notch that razor was sold as Shave ready, Enjoy!

I know the Thread is a bit older but i like to show you my Expeditif 27 and what i know about it.

Its like the first shown Razor abou 13/16" and 3/4 hollow, a typical french Razor but a bit IMO louder than other Razors of the same ground. Saw about four of them, the one that is shown here at the first post, mine, another one in a french Forum and one that is actually avaible on french Ebay. All have been NOS, two (including mine) with fissures at the Back because of polishing heat.
The Scales are typical french Barber Scales with a Clip machnism to safe the blade from opening in the pocket, i saw some older american end english Razors with Scales of a similar mechanism, especially some Torrey Razor.
The Brevete only Means that the Scales have a registered design, it has nothing to do with the blade inside the scales as there are a wide variety of different french Blades from different Manufacturers avaible with these Scales (i have a TI, two Fontenille and the Expeditif with these Blades).
Expeditif means fast or speedy, the 27 stands IMO for the Producer like the 134 for Fontenille or the 69 for TI stands, maybe a complete list of the numbered french Razor manufacturers can help to identify who the Expeditif made.

Glad you dug up this thread. It's pretty old, but I'm happy to learn about and see another one. Unfortunately I never could really master the SR. I've gone back to using a DE, except for when I'm feeling adventurous and have spare time. I appreciate the post. Thanks!
