My New (to me) Ugly Duck
So I got this ugly little duckling, thought it couldnt hurt and hit the surface rust with some 0000 steel wool,.. even on the scales, but i believe it will need more work then I think i should probably tackle for a first time attempt at a restore, but well i have it so here are some pics,... and If I can come up with a safe way to remove the scales without breaking them, i may try to at least get the blade back to a nice shine, then let it be honed and pinned by someone with knowledge on how to do so and save my learnign for something else

You can always leave it for yourself, at a later time, when you have learned a bit more about restoration.
She may turn out to be a diamond in the rough.

Looks like cell rot in the first set of pics. Might want to ditch those scales.

That's the second Satinedge I've seen today. Banjoman84 has a nice one posted in this very topic. This one needs some TLC, but will look good when done. Thanks for the pics.

Thanked: 481Its those damnable clear scales. Its more rare that they DONT rust the blade! if you dont plan on getting to them soon, remove the scales and soak in acetone to remove the emblems. Trust me, if you leave the emblems on the scales, sealed in a plastic bag, the acid will start to eat the brass!

not sure if i have caused the wav in the blade or if it was already there
