I can't speak for the Micarta but I have shaved with the Best Quality and the Special. Both great shavers.

Nothing wrong with the scales.. Just seem a little thick. You could always dress them up, but you really don't need to..

Dovo scales are pretty easy to change out. So if you wanted just plain plastic or ebony or another one of the wood scales, just take off the old and put on the new. Flush cut the hinge pin to remove and then use the little Dovo pin and collar to re-pin on to the new scale.

    Have fun.

    Default Dovo Micarta

The micarta scales are a little on the thick side. My stropping is slower because of it, but the results are the same as my slimmer and faster stropping scales. The holding for the shave is not the most comfortable, but not bad either. The shave out of my Dovo is superb. The thought of changing the scales have crossed my mind, but it hasn't bother me enough to do so. One thing, they are good looking! Double O
