Thanked: 6Need a suggestion for heavy, not extremely expensive straight razor
Hey guys!
Through experimenting with double-edge razors, I've realized that I favor the heavier types. I have a merkur futur which has a lot of heft, and a merkur 15c. These two razors with the exact same Feather blade produce very different results on my beard, and I've come to suspect that maybe straight razors would fall under the same category.
Currently I only have one SR, a dovo diamant 5/8. Very light.
I'm looking for something with a significant amount of mass and heft to it, I'm thinking 7/8 or 8/8 or even more.
Any suggestions? My #1 pick right now is a revisor 8/8. ( 8/8 )
However I would like to find something a bit less pricy, if possible. Used / vintage is fine too.

That will depend on what you consider extremely expensive
If you don't want to get into the custom segment ($500+) I think the best would be to keep an eye out on the classifieds for a vintage razor.Need help or tutoring? Check out the .

Thanked: 3225If you are looking at new razors in that size not much will be inexpensive, size costs. Even used blades that size range tend to be higher in cost than the 5/8 or 6/8 variety. Another possibility to get more mass/weight in a smaller size is to get a wedge. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanked: 3225If you are looking for new razors I thing TI has some heavier grinds available as Dovo might too and Revisor has a couple of 6/8 NOS derbs/wedges in their rarities section. For used your best bet might be the classifieds here. Be aware too that wedges have a different feel to them when shaving as opposed to a full hollow.

Thanked: 1936Sounds like you are looking for a heavier grind razor in the 1/2-1/4 hollow range. My recommendation would be the SRP razor (there would be a bit of a wait, but there will be only 200 made) or a Hart razor. If you are impatient, the Hart would be your answer...but if you have patience I would recommend the SRP razor.

There's a Hart 6/8 in the Classifieds (a few pages back) for $150. That is a good buy at that price.

Thanked: 6For anyone interested, I ended up going with a Revisor 8/8.
This one to be precise:
