    Default Helgren ?

Anyone heard of this razor? The only markings are on the scales and read Geo E Helgren. I can't find anything anywhere on the blade itself. The blade is a shoulderless 5/8 with french point. The 5/8 surprised me, it looks thinner.

I should say I think it is Swedish by the look of the blade and not the name on the scales.

I think the name on the scales "Geo. E. Helgren" was the previous owner, no markings on the blade?

It could be anything, but reminds me of this Electric Cutlery blade. The tang stamps are sort of "frosted" on. You can barely see them.

That is exactly how this blade is. The stamps look as if a heavy polishing would rub them off like gold wash. I found that alot of razors that were made by other manufacturers for other companies seemed to have the light stamps.

Ah well, with such slim info on the razor I guess the manufacturer will remain a mystery. No matter she is a decent shaver after honing by an inexperienced practitioner, me.

Yea, it could be that it might be the original owners name but it looks too neat and possibly done when the razor was made. I am thinking it was the name of a business that had razors made up for them. Besides the previous owner made a feeble attempt to engrave their name on the other scale. Pretty faint though and will polish out.

Had a real good look before I polished the crud off to see if the were any faint markings but couldn't see any. It was worth a shot to see if anyone recognized the name.

Bob, Martin has divulged some info in another thread about New York Knife Co. It seems they bought out Electric and produced "Electric" razors at their plant in New York after 1910, as in my blade. I feel the seeming "hot stamp" look of the logo/name on the front scale is telling. Would you say it is recessed into the scale a bit? If so, that is definitely a hardware store variety produced in New York by NYKC. Or not? Either way. It screams American with the scale design. JMO

Yea, the name is definitely recessed into the scale. Will check out the NYKC thread. The scales do remind me of The Spike razors too. You could be right.

Those collarless pins are an indicator too. Seen on a lot of cell scales from Genco and the like.
The thread in mention is titled "American Knife Co." It seems to have evolved into American makers in general.
