Thanked: 4249Dubl Duck C. S. Bresnick possible manufacturer.
In doing some research for a member here, he was comparing his razor to a C.S. Bresnick. I didnt find any info for his razor and started
to research Bresnick, didnt find much at first until i found a C.S. Bresnick razor with a trademark "Flying Dutchman".
Turns out "Flying Dutchman" is a trademark of Böntgen & Sabin, solingen Germany.
Böntgen & Sabin, Solingen, in 1900, 1914, 1920, 1922, 1925 and 1932. Brand names: 'Autocrat', 'Autofix', 'Bellring', 'Bonanza', 'Bonsa', 'Carrara', 'Clansman', 'Cosmopolit', 'Ezyshave', 'Flying Dutchman', 'Flying Scotchman', 'Football', 'Fussball', 'Gold-Krone Luxus', 'Hector', 'Hindenburg', 'Keystone', 'Klosscut', 'Loreley', 'Midget', 'Mois', 'Nagraf', 'Rhein', 'Romeria Rapid', 'Sabina', 'Sarina', 'SSS in Kreis', 'Zando'. Safety-razor and open-blade razor maker.
That said i was thinking that perhaps "Bontgen & Sabin" is possibly the razor maker for Bresnick, Dubl Duck.
Is it possible that Bresnick had more then one manufacturers for all of their famous razors............. sure it is!
Is it possible that they only had one manufacturers for razors..........its possible.
Bontgen & Sabins from Solingen, Germany had many trademarks, they were active from 1867-1983.
The dates and location are all posibilities as well, something to think about...........

Interesting info and no doubt Bresnick had some made by them. Just FWIW, I know that Bresnick had Puma razors made with his name and the ducks trademark on the reverse tang. I've got a few. I've heard that the last of the Pearlduck dubl ducks were made by Dovo. I don't know if there is anything to that but IIRC an 75 or 80 year old workman (razor grinder) working for Revisor in the past few years told that to someone ...... Maybe Thomas at Revisor ? I don't remember for sure but someone will be along.

Flying Dutchman is one of the known brands Bresnick sold. Now, whether that razor was made by that outfit or it was just a model name totally unconnected is another story.

All is possible.
But there is no any info, that the company had more than one factory. It was founded in August, 1870 by Walter Böntgen and Louis Sabin. And located in Solingen, Mittelstrasse 13 since 1935 and on, renamed in Elsa-Brandstrom-Strasse 13-15, from 1939 till 1970.
Note: the trademark Flying Dutchman (No25019) was registered in 1897.
DDs were made by Dovo over a long time.
"DUBL-DUCK was a trademark by the New York company PEARLDUCK (BRESDUCK). About 10-15 years ago DOVO made DUBL-DUCK straight razors for Pearlduck. The DUBL-DUCK trademark was sold to a company called Miller's Forge in Texas".Last edited by manah; 11-17-2012 at 01:33 AM.
