    Default Marshes & Shepherd

Does anyone know anything about these razors? I saw one on ebay a few weeks ago.

Today at an antique mall, I picked one up for $12 in very good condition (just tarnish, and one small spot of rust on the spine).

The only bit of info I've been able to find is on that list at straightedgedrazors.com

    Thanks!

All I know about them is they made some really honking big razors (not quite as bit as Josh's, but in the 9/8 - 10/8 range).

Yeah! That one I tried to win on eBay was a monster.

Ironically, this one is 4/8ths, I think! I'll get some pics posted tonight, maybe.

The tang markings are partially gone too, which makes me wonder if it is one of those switcheroo jobs.... Hmmm.... I'll take some close up pics and we can ponder...

    You can only make out
    "HES & SHEPHERD
    ND WORK "

So if it is legit, it'll be from the Pond Works plant. I hope it's real. That would make it at least 157 years old. Schweeeeet.

There is nearly zero hone wear on the spine too. I was pretty stoked about that.

Okay, here are some pics of that razor. I'm pretty sure the scales are celluloid. Did they even have celluloid 150 years ago? Something tells me no. Maybe they were re-scaled?

And here is a close up of the stamping on the tang:

Does anyone on this board have a Marshes and Shepherd? If so, is it possible to take a close-up picture of the tang stamp? Especially if the stamp is nice and fully imprinted.

    Thanks!
