Thanked: 2Go for Boker or Dovo
Greetings All,
I know choosing a razor is a personel choice. I am just looking for a more experienced review of two razors; one of which I have decided to purchase.
1] BOKER - EDELWEISS
2] DOVO - PEARLEX
Is there that much of a difference between them?
Thanks much, Any knowledgable advice id welcome.

Thanked: 1195Either would be a fine choice. They are both tried and true brands, and the two models you've listed are priced mid-ranged, meaning that you're paying for aesthetics. Assuming they are prehoned (sold by a vendor such as SRD) either razor will provide smooth, comfortable shaves.
My best advice to to pick the one that speaks to you the most. It's about as complicated as that.

I would say there probably isn't much of a difference between the two blades. Do you prefer the natural look and feel of bone scales? or do you like the shiny bling with gold accents?

Ryan's advice will serve you well. Enjoy and take your time as you learn to straight shave.

Thanked: 46Hi Blues' and welcome to SRP!!
You said you wanted a "experienced" review. Well, I have been straight shaving for over forty years, so here goes.
I have used just about all of the major brands out there, and have found that any quality, name brand razor will shave just fine with proper honing. That being said, all of us old timers have favorite razors that we just like. I said LIKE. That doesn't mean that my, or anyone elses favorite is better than your favorite, Lynns favorite, Glens favorite, or anyone elses.
Over the years I have found that I like Bokers and JA Henckels.
As far as Dovo is concerned, they are fine razors too.
Now, that being said, I have found that there is little difference in the shaving quality of any of the new major brands. But, I have found that if you dive into the vintage razors, It is just about impossible to beat a Boker Edelweiss out of the 1930's. They are just top flight razors. I have one of the new ones and it is fine too. BUT, putting it up against a new Dovo, there is no difference that I have found in the shave quality.
The main thing is to have whatever you go with honed by a expert.
So, I guess what I am saying, is buy the one you like the looks of. Oh, buy the way, you will end up with both anyway.
Very Best, and Happy Shaving, John

Thanked: 116I've got a soft spot in my heart for Bokers as a 5/8 king cutter square point was my first blade ever. It's a 'vampire blade' and bites me in the same spot every time but I love it nonetheless

Thanked: 16I have them both. By the way, the Pearlex comes in carbon steel and stainless (Inox) versions. My Pearlex is the carbon steel one. They're both good shavers if honed properly. The scales look and feel different, since the Edelweiss is bone and the Pearlex is plastic. If you buy from SRD or The Superior Shave, you are sure to get a properly honed razor. There are significant differences in the appearance of bone scales. For that reason, I would suggest The Superior Shave for the Edelweiss. It's the only vendor where each actual razor in individually photographed and you pick the exact razor you want. When you see the variations in the bone scales you'll understand the benefit of being able to pick your exact razor.
