    Default Stole a couple W&B's

First and foremost, I didn't literally "steal" them!! I just thought they were a crazy good deal. Two Wade and Butchers for $XX?? Not to bad I don't think. I picked up a W&B Elite and just a normal square point W&B. See pictures below.

I do have a question, one that I couldn't seem to find an answer to when I was doing a little research. What have used Elite's gone for in the past? I've been able to find them having been sold online, but can't find a price. Either way, I think the money I spent on it was well worth it! I was just a little curious. Also, on the square point W&B, can anyone tell me if the scales are original? I've never seen a W&B with scales like it. I intend on keeping them with it regardless. Just thought I'd share my newest finds after spending 2 hours in an antique store this evening. I'd love to hear any more information about the blades that anyone else may have! Thanks for taking a look everyone!!

I've never seen an Elite. Try ebay 'completed items' and you might get an idea on price but that can vary from week to week. I don't think the scales on the other are original but I'm no expert. Nice pair of shavers though.

Sweet, the one that sold on ebay had 2 chips in the blade and a couple other little nicks on the edge and sold for 22.50.. I'll keep doing a little research and see what I can come up with. Thanks!!

The "Elite" has scales very much like some of the Wosty"s I have seen, so it would be my guess they are original, and used as a sales ploy.
The other razor has definitely been rescaled.

The Elite, Wade & Butcher razor has original scales:
Elite, Wade & Butcher, Sheffield, England.

The second Wade & Butcher was re-scaled.

I also believe the Elite to be original scales Here is a similar NON-XLL of the period.

+1 on the vote for a re-scale of the square point W&B. Just looking at how short the blade is compared to the scales gives it away. I have a set of scales exactly like those that came on a "Kabeso Razor Works" (unknown manufacturer) razor. I doubt the same scales came on a W&B unless, by some unlikely chance, the Kabeso was also manufactured by them.

    "Kabeso Razor Works" (unknown manufacturer)
Kabeso Stahl- und Metallwarenfabrik GmbH, Solingen-Merscheid isn't unknown manufacturer.

I've got scales like that, or very like that, on a few razors. Back in the 'day' when traveling barber supply salesman had routes they went on of barber shops, they had replacement scales and would rescale razors for the barbers who needed the service. Not saying that is how your one W&B got the new shoes but it was quite common. Old barbers have told me that every so often the guy would pull up in a panel truck filled with all the stuff that barbers might need.
