Thanked: 31DOVO stamping vs etching
Have DOVO quit stamping their blades altogether, and are now only etching? If so, I wish they would do the opposite: quit etching and keep stamping. I like relatively simple blade decoration, and the stamp looks much more 'solid'. Of course, some of the blades have very nice-looking etchings. What do you think?

Iduno, my first razor was a Dovo. It has very faint stamping and etching. I figure if they have resorted to just one or the other it would be stamping. Once the etching wears off they wouldn't be able to be identified. Which would ruin Dovo's legacy kinda...
I hope etching isn't the new format, would make it hard to identify blades down the road.

Laser etching is about all they do now, except for a few w/ decorative spines and/or jimps in the tang. It is cheaper to laser etch than stamp. The stamps wear down and don't get as deep as you can see on some vintage razors, requiring them to be custom made and replaced. If a line is discontinued, then the stamp is useless w/ that particular wording; the laser is universal albeit not long lasting, but from a cost standpoint, one laser vrs. multiple stamps = $$ saved over the years they get from them, and much quicker too, only takes a few seconds to run the conveyer under it and do the etching, then next, and so on. It sucks in my opinion, but they do provide more detail, even if it is less than the lifespan of a stamp.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 31Thanks Tiddle!
So that's it. Well let's hope that other factors are still high quality; such as steel hardening etc.
