Default W. Greaves & Sons unusual razor

I found this razor in a book on antiques from 1900, the picture of the razor is not very good but it clearly shows the razor with a swing arm attached to the scales, and three notch on the tang to lock the razor into position. Personally i would think this locking would get in the way of your fingers while shaving but nevertheless interesting.

Very interesting. I would love to hold one like that to see how it would feel in the hand.

Interesting and unusual find. Amazing how people like to invent solutions for nonexistent problems. Likely impractical as you say it just might interfere with your grip while shaving.

I cant see how that would be useful at all. But it would be cool to have one like it none the less.

It's funny that this just came up, I just saw a razor for auction that had what looked like a third pin put in, but now I'm wondering if it might be original with a different purpose:

That picture from the "Old Sheffield Razors" article by Henry T. Lummus, December 1922.
    This picture is larger:

    Full size.
I've seen similar razor, but couldn't use it, it was in the collection.

That sure does look like the third pin was for the same gizmo. Is there a shot of the top of the spine/tang ? Might see notches like on the Greaves.

Unfortunately it's no longer a Greaves. Someone's replaced the original blade with a mid century Wade and Butcher, so no idea.
