Thread: The best looking George Brittain razor ever!

Cheetah Meat here. Representing all of the GB lovers here except my arch nemesis Sheffield Lover...LOL Can't wait to get this one in the mail.

Here we have a very rare George Brittain straight razor.It's marked with and iron cross,the letters GB and an anchor.In researching this i found it to be by George Brittain and was probably made in the early 1800's(all info i have came from internet search).Blade is approx 1" W and it measures when closed approx 6 & 1/2" L.There's some surface rust(see pics) that could probably be worked out some,but i'll leave that job to the lucky winning bidder.Silver scales ( not sure if it's real silver or silver plate) have no cracks or chips just some minor scratches.Will need to be sharpened.I did an extensive internet search and couldn't find another George Brittain razor w silver scales therefore i expect this is a very rare straight razor.I'm not an expert on straight razors but i've found some recently and am putting them out there for bids.I've tried to describe as best as i can. Only an inch? Geez, why'd you even bother posting it?

Was watching that one and thought the bidding went crazy, til I saw the other GBs go off later. Are those scales aluminum?

I'm not a expert cheeta so. I don't think those are original scales unless they are and try guy doesn't know how to pin with right material but I hope I'm wrong

This keeps up and we may have a razor to push old Wade and Butcher off his ebay throne someday.

I also don't think the scales are correct for the blade, but that wouldn't have stopped me from bidding, or buying. LOL

I am truly looking forward to the day I can search GB Anchor and get 13 pages of listings on ebay though. It'll happen...just you wait...

Had a W&B with Alu scales exactly the same as those - bin 'em I say.

Great score I'd say. By the looks of it, it has hardly been used, there's minimal to no hone wear and a nice barbers notch. I'd ditch the scales too. Somehow, a GB needs big, black horn scales, but hey, that's personal. Do keep us posted when you've fixed the blade up and how she shaves.

Yeah I got the blade a couple of days back and to my suprise the scales are either silver or silver plated. I have a polishing cloth for fine jewelry and when I rubbed the scales lots of the tarnish came off so I'm happy. If anyone wants to pony up the money for me to get this GB rescaled...I'm listening

Aluminum will polish up too, and that sure looks like the dull oxide layer that forms on Al. You'd have to weigh them and do a volume displacement measurement to be positive though.
