From my determination it could be a travel strop. It might roll away for travel. But thats just my guess.

That was kind of what I was thinking.

Shalom and Thank You Manah!! - for the information. You really are like a living, breathing encyclopedia of razor knowledge.

The roll is advertised as a traveling strop roll. I think it is strange that I see this set now, but last week I was consulting with the jewler that made my fiancee's engagement ring. He said he could easily make a set of scales for me using the silver I have at home (small collection of gold & silver). I decided the cost was too high and that I would educate myself on smelting, casting, and pouring my own silver.

If I can get this est, I wont need to burn the house down trying to make my own.

I was bidding on that auction. Did you win that auction? I am wondering if I lost it to you?
    Beautiful set.

The majority of straights with sterling silver scales that I've seen are made by F&B. I've never managed to grab one myself but I've heard that they are very good shavers. As long as you're happy with the price, it would be a great collection to own.

No somebody managed to sneak one more bid in there before I could. I really wanted this set because of the roll-up strop. I have never seen one in silver and I am not sure of the mechanical workings inside the casing. The handle strop can be made from a old brush handle. I have copied the thin comb case tat my fiancee has.

But the bright side of things - I have copied the thin comb case that my fiancee has, I have made a wax casting mold and I have been at my buddy's house practicing melting my silvers. So maybe by the end of the month or start of the New Year, I will make my own scales. Question remains - What razor do I put in the scales?....Hmmmmm?

I would like to see the hallmarks on those. As you get them, take some pictures.
