Thanked: 0Refurbished "Dubl Duck"
I've kept quite for a couple days just reading around... I found a thread that said you can't get a good razor for less than $150ish bucks.... I found a shop that refurbishes straight razors, and offer fair prices doing it too... they reused the scales on the one I'm interested in, and its 5/8 sized (bare with me I'm new to straight razors) and it has been a well maintained razor, showing no pitting, and a slight discoloration before it was refurbished...
Basically it looks almost brand new, and has a good hone, nice and flat, and it's really a beauty in general....
Well to my point, the guy only wants 60 bucks! Should I buy it? Thanks!

Refurbished "Dubl Duck"
Hey 11. Welcome to SRP!
As far as value goes, members aren't allowed to offer specific advice. I would offer this to you, if you have done a little bit of research here, maybe checked some recent sales on FleaBay (err, ebay), and a couple other forums (like badger & blade), I think you find the answers you are looking for.
Pics are a great way for members to weigh in opinions about the quality and condition of what you are looking at. We can't talk $$$, but we can tell you if something looks "off". Hope this helps!

When you say discoloration that can mean a patina or it can be heat damage. Need more info & pics to hazard a guess.

Thanked: 0Thanks... I'll see what I can do, from my experience being around my dads knife shop, Hell he had me sharpening kitchen cutlery and pocket knives when I was 7... it seems to e a really God deal.. I was just curious about the price, but since we can't talk money, I'll do some more looking around!

11Bravo you received some good advice above. Discoloration in particular can be nothing at all to a compromised blade. Pic's
could make this a lot easier all the way around. Members are hesitant to say grab it unless we are comfortable saying that. Keep us posted.Bob

Welcome to SRP! One thing you will learn is the members of this site love pics of razors and other shaving gear, the more pics the better.
Double Ducks are some mighty fine shavers, are of very good quality, are highly sought after and are not cheap. But, if the discoloration is from heat it ain't worth doodly squat...............Last edited by DoughBoy68; 12-10-2012 at 01:02 AM.

Thanked: 1195I don't want to come across as an ***hole, but I'd like to see that thread and who posted it. FYI that statement is utter rubbish, which you should instantly disregard - there are many, many fine razors that can be found well under $150. Please continue reading, learning and looking for deals

Thanked: 3225I was wondering about the $150 bit for a decent razor but did not want to bring it up. Glad Ryan did though.
