Thanked: 28New Razor Acquisitoins (apologies pics heavy)
Hi Guys, Just thought I'd post the pics of the razors I'm getting. pls let me know if you have suggestions about what to do to clean them up
first is a ML Brandt cutlery co 7/16 apparently made in Prussia?
Second is sheffield scissor and razor 11/16
And I got a pair of two different razors SOLINGEN 5042 "IMPORTE D'ALLEMAGNE" and SOLINGEN ERWIL according to the seller.
these two are the ones I would most likely need some tips on getting them restored to their original condition.
And last but not least I got a hammesfahr gottlieb 5/8 in pretty nice condition for what I paid for it. If anyone knows anything about any of these manufacturers please post me a link or pm me with some info I'd really like to know more about their history.

Very nice, most just look like they could use a little polishing.

saitou,
I'm as new as you are when it comes to this game.
I usually hand polish with a paste like Mothers, first. This clears a lot up, & gives me a good idea if I want to go further.

Thanked: 1072If it were me, I'd pull them all down & hand sand them to a highly polished finish, probably do a little sanding and buffing on the scales too.
But... it all depends on your personal taste and restoration skills.
One of those Solingen razors looks like its got broken scales. If the scales are trashed maybe start hand sanding that one, it will be a good learning experience.
Or you could just do some light sanding or polishing without taking apart any of the razors.
There's a few options for you, just take your time. As Glen says "Rush a restore, wreck a razor"
There is heaps of good advice & info here http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...wers-here.html
On another note, the first razor looks like it might need a little grinding at the heel. Those shoulders look like they might interfere with honing.

Thanked: 983That's them. That blade has a slight frown near the heel. And those Solingens might have a bit of pitting near the edge. Could be a bit of a spirit dampener in the honing stakes there. I have a Wosty pipe that has recely left me feeling deflated due to pitting neat the edge. Just can't seem to get past it.
