It is interesting, dont know how viable the information is though.

Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

In North Jersey, twenty some years ago, an old barber told me that when it was winter, cold in the shop, if you weren't careful placing your bone or ivory scaled razor on the marble shelf under the mirrors (at his station) you could easily crack the scale at the pin.
