Thiers-Issard 6/8 "Spartacus"
Evening Gents... Just a quick question. I'm looking at a Christmas present to myself! I have about 8 razors in my humble collection (all of which are shaved with). What I do not yet have is a TI. I was looking at a TI 6/8 Spartacus, "carbonsong steel". Has anyone had any personal experience with these razors? As always, I appreciate the input.. Merry Christmas all --Nick

I've got one with the new steel and one with the old 'silver' steel. Both are real good razors.

I have I think one of their new production and 5-6 older ones. I think you know what I like better, although if you want a vintage 6/8 you will probably have to start looking for it and may not have it for Christmas

Thanks! The one I'm looking at is one of their new production blades, just plain black synthetic scales

Don't have one, but have heard good things. They sure are purdy, would like to get my hands on one as well. Let us know your feedback if you take the plunge.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 1I have a TI 6/8 extra full hollow - I love it. Great shaver. My only criticism is the scales (plastic - but very nice!) don't match. One is thicker and longer than the other, the points at the pivot end are not identical either and the tail of the blade catches the inside of the4 scale when the razor closes from the 6:45 position. You'd think for a couple hundred bucks, they'd take more care matching up the bits - but never the less, it's the best shaver I have. Will probably re-scale w bone or horn so no biggie... Just ask the vendor to pick you out a good blade that opens and closes centered, with a straight edge that's not warped, and you should be okay!

Thanked: 16My son-in-law has the 5/8 Spartacus and he's happy with it. I have a 5/8 TI that's not a Spartacus but is made from the same steel. It's a good shaver.

Thanked: 8Not a Spartacus but I have a TI Super Gnome 6/8 which is one of my favorites. A terrific shaver!
