Default Has anyone heard of razors produced for Puget Sound Notion Co.

I recently acquired a straight razor that was stamped P.S. Notion Co. Seattle Wash. It looks to be in pretty good shape. The case it came in was not for this razor, I believe, as it has Appelton & Bassett stamped on the side. I did an Internet search and came up with the Puget Sound Notion Company in Seattle, WA. I would assume this razor was made for this mercantile company to be sold under their name. I would be interested if anyone has run across one of these razors and if anyone might have an idea of who made this razor and its possible age.

    Thanks,
    john

Welcome to SRP. Mismatched cases are not at all uncommon. Back during the time that most men shaved with a straight razor and for some time afterwards many companies had razors manufactured with their own company name stamped on the tang. Sometimes the actual mfg would also have a brand on the razor but many times they didn't.

If you post a photo or two of the overall razor with the blade exposed and maybe a close up of the tang stamp or any etching on the blade maybe someone will be able to give you an idea of what time period it comes out of.

Here are the pics of the razor I was inquiring about. The reverse side of the tang is blank.

My guess is you'll never know who made it. The razor is in very nice condition though and if you had it honed my a pro would probably be a really good shaver. If that is he way you want to go check out member services in the SRP classifieds where you can have it done for a nominal fee.

Thanks again for your reply. I'm going to have a go at honing it and see how it turns out.
