I am not aware of such database, may be the closest is SRP classifieds, where you can see what razors go for depending on condition.

On eBay, two identical model razors in different condition will sell for different prices.
Two identical model razors in the same condition may sell for different prices depending on the day .
In the end a razor is worth what the highest bidder is willing to offer.

Go to ebay and search using the advanced search, select completed auctions. This will give you some kind of idea what they have been going for.
One time, in band camp, I shaved with a Gold Dollar razor.

The BEST ADVICE I can give to someone who is new to straight razors/shaving is to STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM EBAY FOR AT LEAST 6-8 MONTHS!!!

In the meantime if you want a vintage razor buy one here at SRP!!

I started with my deceased Uncle's Genco Grant that was honed by someone somewhere because I hadn't found this wonderful Site and used a Sub Standard Site's honing services!

I purchased my first vintage razor from HNSB here via the Classifieds it arrived truly 'Shave Ready'!

While my collection numbers around 20 blades most have been given to me but those that weren't were purchased here!!!!!!

I come from a small town and was taught very early on to spend my money where I work/where I live/or with my friends!!

I stand by this old redneck philosophy!!!

A review of ebay, SRP Classifieds, SRD and multiple other straight razor vendors appears to show a wide price range of over 100% for razors that, by description, appear to be in very similar condition. I think for any given razor that a survey might give a potential purchaser a sense of what's reasonable but as for putting together a "value database", it would be tough.

Hey airport, there is a book out there called standard razors identification and values but it's very hard to find. You can buy it on Amazon but the latest addition which is the third edition cost about 155 dollars! Has a helluva lot of information it though!

As mentioned above, no such database or set of information exists. Even the aforementioned book is most likely out of date when it comes to prices, which seem to vary on an almost monthly basis!

The best you can do is stay on top of things by watching auctions, looking around ours (and other's) classifieds areas, checking out antiques stores etc.

    Good luck.

Restores are hard to quantify. It would be like calling an auto- body shop on the phone and saying how much to have some rust, a few dents removed and my car painted ?

There are too many variables in terms of what is left original, how long blade reconditioning and honing take, and finally scales. It seems to me it almost has to be case by case depending on condition and what the customer wants to end up with.

Another analogy is a sign I saw in a "speed shop" for muscle cars, "Speed is expensive, how fast do you want to go ?"

Yeah I have the softcover called:

Standard Guide To Razors - third edition - Identification and Values. By R. Ritchie & R. Stewart

Amazon.com: Standard Guide to Razors: Identification and Values (9781574325508): Roy Ritchie, Ron Stewart: Books

It's a good read, but it doesn't account for the hysteria some blades garnish.
