Can you cut your woods down to size our do you need them pre cut..the reason I ask is because I don't have equipment to cut it down and a lot of guys will give you links to larger pieces so you make them.

Have been looking for pre cut myself so I can use a coping saw

I get mine from ebay for a couple of dollars. You want to look for razor blanks rather than knife blanks generally due to the pre-cut sizes.

Those I use are 6"x1"x1/8". If you get something thicker than 1/8" you are going to be sanding for quite a while.

These blanks are a perfect size to get 2 sets out of each. I wouldn't order the amboyna burl over the internet or you'll just end up with a piece that will be garbage. I go in and hand pick it at the store. I've used these blanks a lot.

I don't know your location, but here in the deep south, I have used hickery, dogwood, and black walnut that I have harvested myself in the woods.

I live in South Florida, we have mahogany trees but it will take a long time to dry before I could make use of it. So I was looking for a recomendation of a online place to get wood or other scale material. I have the equipment, just need the material.

Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

I went to a store that sells hardwood flooring and asked if they had any odd pieces left over from flooring jobs they had done. The clerk pointed to the samples they use to sell their flooring and asked if they would work. I said yes and he went in the back room and came back with a sack full of them. They are 6 inches long and vary in width. I got some dense Mahogany, Ebony, Koa, and a bunch of others. I asked what I owed and he said there was no charge as they don't have these woods available any longer.
