    Default M.E. Rappenhagen

Can anyone tell me about these razors? I got one for Christmas. My dad got it for me and knows nothing about razors. He got it vintage from a site that I have had bad experience with vintagerazorblades. He didn't know any better. I am suspect because of the price and the site. Im not asking for a value, just if anyone has any and if they shave well and if they are on par with other brands like Dovo etc. I hate to break his heart but I may just send it back and get one from one of the sites here I know.

    It's a vintage Solingen razor:

VINTAGE M E REPPENHAGEN DIAMONDINE STRAIGHT EDGE RAZ (04/05/2011)...

and it should shave well, after it's been honed. Just about any vintage Solingen (or other German) razor is still a good shaver. [Note that the heading of the page -- "Reppenhagen" -- doesn't match the text of the description.]

There may be another company -- Rappenhagen -- that was based in the US and made strops. But without a photo, it's difficult to know what you have.

In spite of a hundred years of improvement in steel and machinery, the vintage Solingen razors hold their own nicely, against most modern blades.
