Welcome to the proud and select SRP! It looks like a good first razor. As always, send it to one of the hone meisters and have it expertly honed. Then you will have a working razor that will not disappoint you, and a reference point for when you start honing your own stuff.
Start on the site wiki and read the basics about the straight razor. All your answers are there. The straight razor - Straight Razor Place Wiki

Thanked: 4249Looks like a spike point 5/8 full hollow. Im assuming it is a Manganese steel Wester bros Solingen Germany.
Definately a good quality razor for sure!Last edited by Martin103; 12-25-2012 at 10:33 PM.

Thanked: 0Hello Martin103,
thanks for the info.
So having a spike point is it just a matter of preference? what are the pros and cons of a spike point? 5/8, is anything smaller?
Thanks

Re: What kind and size?
I'm betting that's a Wester Brothers Anchor brand manganese steel. I've got one and honed up it's a fantastic shaver. I've seen several of them crop up lately. It's a spike point, looks like my mine, which is a 5/8, full hollow.
Hope that helps. Send it off to get honed and it should be a champion. When the Dude is recognized in the world, unDudeness will be seen everywhere--- the Dude de Ching

Thanked: 42495/8 is a great size for beginners, spike point , round point, french point etc is a preference like you said, because of the almost perfect 90degree
point they tend to bite more then a round point but when you get it honed just have the point muted meaning the tip of the razor will not be sharp.

Thanked: 4249You probably should invest in sending your razor for honing, then learn how to shave and maintain the edge on the strop then honing.
That strop will work fine! any linen or cotton on the other side?

Thanked: 0Hello,
How often does the razor needs to be honed?
Also I watch many videos on stropping and if I understood properly, you should strop it before shave and after, correct?
Also how do you know when you need to have the razor honed?
Thanks all
