Well after posting on their Facebook page, AOS apologized for the experience and asked for my contact info to try and make things right. We'll see what happens.

That is better than being ignored. Sad that you have to put a corporations feet to the fire in public to elicit the type of response that should have been given at the local level. Hope they come through for you and be sure and let us know the outcome when the dust settles.

Well one of their representatives finally got a hold of me today since the holidays are over. All I have to do is forward them a copy of the receipt for the razor and he told me they would reimburse me for up to $30 in honing costs. He then reiterated that they come from the factory as "shave ready" and may occasionally need additional sharpening in order to shave well. To this I told him they should run them through some tests to make sure the factory did a good job and sharpen them as needed, rather than just passing on bad information. It would save them a fair amount of money in the long run, and improve their business. He just kind of ignored me and we exchanged goodbyes.

So they made up for their shortcomings in the end, but it took writing a scathing review on a public networking site to do it. I'm pleased, but I won't be buying any more razors from them most likely.

    Shaving isn't fair.
LOL EXACTLY... Or by a lapping stone to later find out you have to lap the lapping stone on sand paper prior to use it.. This really blew my mind..

Default Art of Shaving - they found a loophole

I have some decent credentials among the various knife communities and have spent many hours talking about, designing, and making sharp things.

That said, go to ANY knife community and ask for a definition of "sharp". Want some real fun, ask for a definition of "sharp enough".

"Shave ready" is a bit like that. Many will have different expectations. I could share stories...

I just bought a Craftman 4 oz. ball peen. Craftsman..... I get it home and start peeling off the stickers and look at the peen end. Pffffff looks more like a chisel. Do we have to make and do everything ourselves these days ?
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
