Thanked: 3Question about a cracked NOS Filamarmonica
Iz6, yes the razor was described as NOS, and I agree he has nice razors for auction. I've sent an email to discuss this because it's an odd situation in that I want to keep the razor because it's here and I have that compulsion, but at the same time I'm not sure I would have bid on this razor had I known the gouge was there and may have instead save my pennies for the next NOS I came across.

Thanked: 3Question about a cracked NOS Filamarmonica
Update - seller responded to my emails and offered to accept a return, but in our email exchange it occurred to me that I may have been in error; I wanted an everyday shaver and it was offered as a collectible. So, it stays with me and lesson learned. I still think it will make a great shaver one honed by a pro, gouge and all.

Fillys are great shavers. If it is a 'gouge' and not a crack it is just the workman's momentary lapse when doing the hollow grind. With proper care it will last longer than we will.

I am glad you had a positive response from the seller. His reputation is very good and he finds access to some Japanese western style razors that I have endlessly searched for.
I think you will enjoy your filly but please let us know what you think once you have the razor honed.Bob

It certainly doesn't look like a crack to me. It looks like a factory errant grinding mark as it runs parallel to the shoulder. That would make the NOS description valid.

I've stared at these pics too and I think it's a grinding mark or even an end of the etching part. It definitely doesn't seem to be a crack. It's easy to judge by the strop whether it "sings" or not as mentioned above. As Bob said, this seller has many accurate descriptions and some razors that I can only dream of... (Iwasaki kamisoris and the list continues). It's easy to fall back into RAD when watching his offers. :-) Seems you worked it out alright with him and thus I would say, get her honed up and use her! I have three Filly's and they're all great shavers.

Sashimi, you're correct, the seller's offerings induce serious RAD tendencies, and I think you're also correct that the gouge is a manufacturing goof. I'm not skilled enough to determine subtleties like this and I'm grateful for the SRP community for helping me.
