Naniwa stones
I have been honing on Norton stones for a while. I have the 220/1k, the 4/8k and a chinese 12k. I want to get a Naniwa set up. Should I get a 1k a 3k/8k combo and a 12k or should I get a 1k a 5k an 8k and a 12k? The price is about the same. What would you do. Im probably fooling myself because Ill probably buy the 5k anyway along with the 1k 3k/8k and 12k but if not what do you recommend?

Either way would be fine. Lynn has used them all, and he said the 3k/8k combo works just as well as the seperate 5k and 8k. You may just have to do 5 more laps to even the scratches out from the 3k. The 12k is a great finisher, I wouldn't sell mine for anything.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 57I have a Norton 4/8K and a Nani 12K. That's a perfect set-up for me. The Nani 12K is a wonderful finisher and I love it too. I also have a Chinese 12K nat and it doesn't even compare to the Nani. (The C-Nat was a waste of money.)

A +1 on a Naniwa 12k. It is a very good hone.

I don't see the need for more Naniwa's under 12K if your Nortons are in fine condition. It is always nice getting new things, but I'm tight on money at the moment so I'll be using my Nortons til they die and I have to upgrade. But I do plan on adding a Naniwa 12K to the arsenal soon.
