    Default Christmas in January

    Hi Gang!

I work for an international grocery chain called Safeway and starting this last July two of my fellow employees along with myself lost our mothers. This all happened within 3 weeks!

To say that Christmas was different for all of us would be an understatement.

A woman whom I’ve worked with for about 12 years/and had also lost her mother knows about my love of straight razor shaving and occasional use of a DE recently told me that she had something that she wanted to give me.

Today she proudly presented me with one of her father’s DE’s! It was in the plastic case that it was purchased in and also included some Vintage Blades!!! Some of the blades are Gillette Stainless and the others are Gillette Blue Blades!

It was in Great Shape!!! I used some Mother’s metal polish and after only about 15-20 minutes with a tooth brush and a piece of an old t-shirt it looked brand new both inside and out!!

I used some automotive plastic lens cleaner from 3M to polish the entire display case inside and out and it looks wonderful! The clear plastic cover does have some stress cracks and a couple of other imperfections that will never be removed but it looks so much better!!

I can’t wait to show her that I took the time and care to bring the heirloom that she had so graciously and unasked for gave to me! I’ll always treasure it!

She also gave me her father’s name and when he was born and died! I’ve recorded all of the information!

I’m saving the vintage Gillette blades (there isn’t any rust on any of the blades in either package) so I used one of my Derby blades and got a remarkable good shave! I did two passes but didn’t re-lather!!!! I just kept shaving and it was great!! No Nicks, No Cuts, No Razor Burn!!!

    It was a Perfect Game!!

To 'Pre Answer' what's sure to be in some people' minds is this:
She doesn't have any children and her only brother is in and out of jail and she told me that she felt that her dad's razor would have a safe and secure home and that she knew that I'd not only appreciate the gift but use it!

    Use it I will!

First and foremost, I sincerely thank you for your condolences!

    Pictures:

I wish I could but alas, I don't have a digital camera! My one daughter has one that cost her $1000.00 but it's hard to hook up with her as she runs her own business and has her hands full with her 8 and 4 year old children. My other daughter has a cell phone that includes a camera and comes over regularly, I'll try to see what we can do next week.

    Again, thank you!

Tyler, since you are my former apprentice, I know very well what that beard of Brillo of yours can do to a razor's edge!!!!

How are the DE blades holding up? It would be interesting to know how many shaves you get from a blade!

I know that I'm Highjacking my own thread but I'd still like to know!

Well sir since last time we talked about shaving my technique has improved dramatically. And the razors edge hold up a lot better I can make them last for up to 2 to 3 weeks sometimes a month. Now due razor blades I can make them last for about 4 shaves and that's about all
