Thanked: 0Thank you everyone for all the helpful information and such a fast response. This is why I love this forum!
One last question for you guys... well maybe two...
1. Should I unpin the scales from the razor?
2. How can I get into the impressions for sanding? (I'm thinking mostly about how I'm going to get into the Electric logo..)

In this case I would unpin the scales simply because there is so much active rust to deal with and it appears to occur under the scales at the pivot. Tough to tell from pics though, so if it is clear to you that there is no rust under there, then consider not unpinning them. If you do decide to unpin, be careful! Those are such interesting scales it would be a shame to mess them up.
For the rust in the logo - try a q-tip with metal polish. It's surprising just how much rust & crud that can get rid of.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanked: 884I use Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish.
However, that puppy is going to need something a bit more aggressive. I'd start with 400 grit "wet or dry" silicon carbide 'sand paper" and then work my way up through 800 to 1200 and then maybe 2000 grits BEFORE I tried to polish it with metal polish. You can use water or WD-40 with the wet or dry paper to keep it from loading up so fast. Just remember to dry the razor and put a light film of oil on it when you decide to take a break and stop for the day.
It'll be a LOT of work, be damn careful as dull razor will still leave a nice, bloody groove in any of your fingers. ( don't ask me how I know this. )Last edited by Wullie; 01-06-2013 at 10:23 PM.

Maas is also good for the final polish.
I love the scales. I would have bought it just for the scales, as a rescale project for one of my other razors. I've seen scales in pressed leather but nothing like this.
Good luck and please post pics after clean up.
