From the source itself. Im assuming it won't be shave ready. I assume I should not go all the way to the bevel just start at 12k or 8k and regress from there if I have too. Is this correct?

I'm pretty sure they come shave ready. Maybe not as shave ready as you're used to , or maybe it is. I would try it before I honed on it. Congrats, hope it is everything you expected.

Ah, congrats! I just received one as a b-day gift last month. Wonderful razor! It will come sharp but maybe not shave ready. I was able to shave with mine out of the box but it wasn't that good. The point will be plenty sharp, watch out for that little treasure or you'll be posting on the cut of the day thread. Its a tough blade to hone. I suspect its very much like a wedge in that it takes a lot more time and effort to get it tuned up. Although I'm getting good shaves from mine, its taken some time and may still need a little more work. Its nowhere as responsive on teh hones as a full hollow blade. But others have said it holds its edge a long time. So I guess you get out of it what you put into it. What kind of scales did you choose?

I was able to shave with mine but it wasn't that great of a shave. I'm still learning to hone so I had to go down to my 4k norton and work a pyramid. When I was done the shave was unbelievable. I agree with trying it first. And I would not go straight to a 4k like I did, I'm sure a more experienced honer would have been able to touch it up. It's a very nice shaving razor!

My Hart 6/8 was okay out of the box, but is way better now that I reset the bevel and put it through a pyramid scheme. Now it takes a few laps on the Naniwa 12k when it just starts to tug, then it's sweet and smooth again, and that's been required only twice since I got it last year. However, I suspect every Hart is different. Shave with yours and see. Good luck, and congrats. They are incredible shavers.

BTW, I am not sure I needed to reset the bevel, I just didn't know any better at the time.

Mine were great out of the box. They say they are finished with an Escher...all I know is that mine were very much shave ready and to my liking as received.

I would try it before putting on a hone I have 7 of the and all came shave ready I've read that some had to hone there's I got my first one when the came out and it has yet to be honed. I am a big Hart Steel fan they are all I use.
