Has anybody used a Pride Cutlery razor. They are pretty cheap on ebay from knife kingdom, and I didn't see them on the brands to avoid list

Thanked: 0My wife recently got me one of these, it was a surprise gift for my birthday. I would hate to hurt her feelings by not utilizing it, can it be made shave worthy by someone who really knows how to properly hone a straight razor?

I also just recently got this razor as a birthday present. I'm in the process of setting a bevel on the norton 4k/8k. There was a lot of work to do on it, as it was NOT shave ready. The quality of the metal seems lower than what you would want, but I will update this thread when I finish to let you know if I was able to get it there.
However, I agree these should likely be added to the list, but the price should have told you that. I see it as a good razor to get some honing practice in on.

Thanked: 6Cheap, poor quality razors aren't really the best to learn how to hone on. How can you tell if you did a good job if the blade is wavy or if it just doesn't hold an edge? Please tell me you lapped that Norton before honing on it, mine were pretty far off flat out of the box.

Yeah, so I have not posted here with an update, sorry. No, this is NOT a good option. This is not actually a traditional razor, it's a razor like knife. It does not have the proper geometry to be honed, and does not take an edge like either a vintage or a new high quality blade will. Add it to the "do not use" list.
State v. Durham, 323 N.W. 2d 243, 245 (Iowa 1982) (holding that a straight razor is per se a "dangerous weapon").
