ylollinger's Special str8 razor.
Hello All,
I have not been able to find any information on the Ylollinger's Special Straight razor. Ylollinger's is spelled out in script the word special is in print. It is a 5/8 round tip and a 1" monkey tail. I beleive it is cellullite scales but I could be wrong about that. any info would be appreciated.

Yep you did it I can see them. Nice razor simple and clean classic lines. One of our resident razor historians should be along shortly and hopefully have some information for you. Does it have a country of origin stamped on it?

There are no other markings on this razor at all.

I believe your razor is a Hollinger's Special, it is a H not a Y.

I have to say that you are most likely correct that it is a Hollinger's. I was just searching for some pictures on line of a hollinger and only found two. Both were Printed names of the maker and not in script, as is mine. It is easy to mistake the "H" as a Yi if you can make it out in my poor uploaded pictures. Could it be a change in how they stamped their name?

ylollinger's Special str8 razor.
Maybe the fact that your razor is "Special" is the reason why Hollinger's is in a cursive type font?

Thanked: 3164Without more information to go on, it's possible that your razor was imported for resale by one of the Hollinger brothers under the Hollinger name rather than the maker's name.
Sigmund Hollinger came from Austria to America in 1905 (profession given as 'manager') and was naturalised in 1907 (profession given as 'supplier') and his older brother Joseph came over from Austria to the USA via Southampton, England, in 1907. His naturalisation papers show that he described himself as a 'merchant' but by 1910 he was a 'jeweller' residing in the Bronx, New York. A shop followed - Hollinger Optical & Cutlery - and he was now describing himself as an 'importer'. Neither one seems to have described himself as a cutler, so I suppose the razors (there are a fair number of them about) found marked 'Sig. Hollinger' and 'Joseph Hollinger' were imported.
