    Default Is this the one?

    Hello,

here is my latest purchase however I have question related to the scale. Is this the one scale which is causing razor pitting? Should I removed it? Maybe keep razor open?

From what I can see, the pitting is along the spine, if the scales are suffering from celluloid rot, the pitting would be closer to the edge.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

The number is 355 and 5/8 and I haveno idea what does it means. Looks like I do not have to worry about this scale. Just clean up, hone and test it.

355 I guess is some model number and 5/8 is the size of the blade, quite normal size.
Now go and hone those chips away and get her sharp, mine shaves like a dream!
I've just cleaned mine up quickly and sharpened her, some day I'll give her the proper care she deserves...

LOL, I will. I will tell you funny story. The other day I sold Le Grelot Royal Canada for .... $8. Friend of told me that I have not sold anything... I gave it away for free:-) Lucky me I got this one (Sheffield Steel) and other Royal Canada for pretty good price.

    oldblades,

Is this DD killed by celluloid? Scary!

If you have more of them sell them to me!
I did buy my Le Grelots on ebay.fr, really good prices but my french is not really that good, haha.

About the steel, I wouldn't trust it's "Sheffield Steel" just becourse it say so in the etching.
I had one that said Sheffield Steel on the tang and Swedish Steel on the blade.
What it says on the blade seems to be anything that might sell them faster...

Yes, that is what killed it. At one time it was a NOS in the box.
Had it set back and didn't check on it. Low an behold I open the box and it was gone. Celluloid in a closed box when it starts to break down does a job on steel.
