Thanked: 0Shepherd Brothers Manufacturers Sheffield
Hi, just picked this up from whippeddog.com as a razor to learn how to hone with. Was trying to look up a bit of history but cant seem to find much, was wondering if anybody has some info on it.

Thanked: 3164There is a listing for them in 1852 as 'american merchants' at Workhouse Croft in Sheffield, and a notice that the partnership was dissolved in 1898.
Regards,
Neil

Man! That is an oldie. Iron collars, wonkey spine and all. A real challenge to hone those, sometimes. I would hesitate to say a good challenge for a beginner! You might want to save it for further down the road as more experience is gained.
JMHO, YMMV"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanked: 25That thing is beautiful man! Please dont learn to hone on that one. If it were to be messed up beyond repair, I for one would be heartbroken! Im a huge fan of those vintage English blades. If you want something cheap to practice honing on, pick up a cheap Gold Dollar or something. You'll probably only get a shave or tow out of it before you have to rehone it, but thats alot of practice. A good vintage blade, once honed properly can last a long time and give you great shaves. Of course its your money, but please please please please reconsider.
